Miniature Pastries - 1/12 Scale Yellow Pansy Cupcakes

It's been a while since I attempted to make some miniature pastries.

I remembered watching one of the home and gardens television shows when I was a teenager or maybe 19 or 20 years old. One of the most impressive things I've learnt back then, and I can still remember, was about pansies! It was in that episode that I learnt that pansies can be used in food. Pansy salads, pansy pasta, pansy cupcakes, candied pansy! Oh and amazingly chill them into ice cubes!

Ever since, I have this fascination with this versatile flower. Last week, I decided to try my hand on making some miniature pastries -1:12 scale miniature pansy cupcakes. The first thing I did was to scout around for images of pansies. I like yellow so I will try my hand on yellow pansies for a start. The petals have to be made one by one and assembled after that, so it is time consuming. Also, I handpainted them as well in order to achieve that realistic pansy look. My personal takeaway from making miniature pansies is that they are not that difficult to make, in terms of shaping the petals. They can be made easily, but it's the painting that makes or break it. So I suggest to do a lot of close up study of a pansy flower, and try to create that using painting techniques.

Dollhouse Miniatures for my friend

My sweet friend, Jacqueline comes up with the most amazing ideas of how she would like to use my creations. I was honored by the request to make a bigger, functional shabby chic dollhouse miniature cake box which was going to be used to store business name cards :) I gladly jumped on the opportunity and made this for her:

Now back to dollhouse miniatures....these are for her as well! As to what she will be using them for, we'll keep a secret for now, and will wait for Jacqueline to reveal it later ;) Keep a lookout!!

Miniature Pastries - 1:12 scale fruit tarts

The hot weather lately makes me crave for something light...last week I felt like making some miniature pastries - fruit tarts in particular, and so here is my first batch. I envisioned mango cubes and kiwi fruit tarts. I saw a photo of the real thing on the internet (below) and immediately I thought yummy! How can one not like this combination, seriously.

That gave me an inspiration to make a dollhouse miniature version of these lovely fruit tarts. And here's my version of them. Mine's slightly different. As if the mango cubes were not enough, I drenched them with MORE mango puree. I also added some gold flakes on the top!

All fruits are handmade by me too.

Each fruit tart is approximately 0.6cm in diameter.

Inspirations Lead to Treasuries

Sometimes when I'm tired and want to take a break from crafting, I love window shopping. I love to be inspired, and it's easy for me to be inspired when I look at photographs of home decor, or interesting items. Today is such a treat. 1:12 Scale Flower Arrangement Books

Beginning of last week, while waiting for my new workstation to arrive and in the midst of packing and cleaning my room, I started another project making these 1:12 scale flower arrangement books. It was really fun for me seeing these books being created in 1:12 scale. I found a little container to hold the mini books that I was cranking out. Why flower books? I don't really know except for the fact that their covers attracted me a whole lot, and the colours are so bright and pretty that I can't resist! In total, I made about 20 over books (all different covers), and I have mailed out a few as freebies along with the sales orders I received last week! :)

There really is no special technique for making these books, and all you need are good resolution pictures, and being able to print them out in best quality as you shrink them down. Strangely though, I find it rather therapeutic creating these lovely books... that's why I ended up with that many :)

Just yesterday, or was it a day before, I posted on my Facebook Fan Page asking my fans to guess what kind of books I'm creating...just for fun and some interaction. Hehe. Cookbooks, journals, craftbooks, gardening books were some guesses. I'm going to try to see if I can find any of those in a style I like. ;)

Off to creating more.

Dollhouse Miniature 1:12 Scale Shabby Chic Enamel Kitchen Tray

I had been busy cleaning up and "revamping" my work station at home. It's been a long time since my last major cleanup. I've been wanting to replace a table that I've been using since my high school days as it looks like it's going to give way anytime soon! Since my new workstation arrived, I had been busy moving things around, changing a new seating position, and took the opportunity to do some cleanup. I'm pretty much quite settled down now. :) There are still some empty boxes lying around, but I can't wait to get back into the swing of things.

My first piece of dollhouse miniature creation after re-opening my workshop are these enamel shabby chic kitchen trays. I can only imagine the countless possibilities for these trays. Use them simply for dollhouse decor if you feel it's a shame to hide those beautiful prints. Or simply use it as a bakery tray to display your goodies.
