Good Claying Habits

I'm currently working on a new commissioned fake dessert project that requires me to use larger cups than I'm used to. If you follow me on my instagram, you may have seen this photo before.

The 2cm cups are the 1:12 scale dollhouse miniature cups. I'm working with the 3.5cm cups this time round for this project. The difference in 1.5cm in size does makes a lot of difference!!

This project will be made up of a lot of macarons, chocolate balls and whip cream. I do intend to blog more work in progress pictures for this project!

Meanwhile I'm making a lot of macarons first. And I'm really pacing myself for this.

I have 2 more colors to make, and I spent 2 days making these. 1 day for each color. Of course, I move onto other things after I finished 1 set of macaron color per day. But I need to be really mindful when I am working with macarons, especially if they require a detailed crows feet look.

Do you actually take care of your hands and wrists while working with clay? Perhaps you are young, and you don't think about these things. But even as a hobbyist, I hope you think about it and practice good claying habits if you wish to enjoy this hobby for a long time. Prolonged repetitive actions on one particular hand/wrist isn't healthy. Prolonged sitting down for hours isn't as well. Bad sitting posture can affect your nerves which affects other part of your body. So, I strongly suggest that everyone take good care of your body and health :) Schedule breaks frequently, get up, walk, exercise before coming back to claying. Maybe you need to take extra care if you are a polymer clay user as you need to condition your clay.

What are your claying habits?

Dollhouse Miniature Purple Ombre Flower Cake

It's been a while since I made dollhouse miniature cakes. This time round, I'm happy to experiment and make a purple ombre flower cake! It's been on my list to make it and am finally glad it's now been done.

It's funny how I feel differently about decorating cakes after making bouquets for a while. It is a very different work process. It's not because cake layers are involved here, but I feel much more restricted in terms of design wise. You only have the diameter of the cake size to play with design.

Also, I realized that I can possibly come up with 2 different designs when I started decorating this cake. I might try another design sometime later.

In my shop here.

What do I like about this cake design? I'm loving the violets, the soft colors and the golden leaves ^^

Dollhouse Miniature Flowers- Parisian Dreams

I'm probably a few posts behind on my blog. But I'm just happy that I'm churning out idea after idea and making things here. But first, let me just show you what I made a while ago.
I named this dollhouse miniature bouquet "Parisian Dreams" because it was inspired by a song that I LOVE listening to. It transports me to a Paris street scene.

All the colors in this bouquet is soft...
It was sold within hours after it was listed. So I'm going to try to make another one soon...

See some new flower types in this bouquet?

I am also working on my first ombre layer cake, and I'm so happy I finally did it. It's been on my mind for some time.

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Valentine's Day Gift Guide for the Macaron Enthusiast

I was looking at my stats and was happy to find Pei Li Miniatures being featured in a couple of fabulous mentions!
Both, coincidentally were macaron themed articles.

The first one was about Wedding Macarons Guide. My photo was chosen to showcase ombre color scheme for macarons.
It's been a while since I made something like that, so maybe...I should again?

The next feature that I was included in was a Valentine's Day Gift Guide for the Macaron Enthusiast in the Town&Country Magazine. A New York based magazine, it covers a wide range of subjects from dazzling jewelry, couture, finest things made by hand, notable wedding celebrations, travel etc.

As a Singapore based artist and being able to be included in this feature means a lot to me.

These two features are probably the best news for me at the start of 2016!

Dollhouse Miniature Pink Rose Cakes

This week, I made some dollhouse miniature romantic pink rose cakes with dripping pink ganache! I knew I had to try the pink dripping ganache method, and so I did. Perfect for a Valentine's Day gift, don't you think?

Added a soft pink rose for each cake and some winter leaves, and it looks sweet. Honestly, I was inspired to make the softest pale pink rose ever, therefore, the center part is gently touched with pink.

These are available here http://goo.gl/Jzo9fL

Flowers still, are the most time consuming things to make. Especially if you are making bigger cakes. You will have to make more flowers just in case, because you just never know.

I'm in the midst of making bigger cakes.

Wishing all a Happy weekend and also, Happy Valentine's Day!

Ready for the new year

The floors are mopped this morning. The tables and surfaces of my room were cleaned yesterday. That's about it for cleaning, and I'm ready to usher in the chinese new year over here. It has been a really cool, windy morning. We don't have any big celebrations since we won't be at home to eat starting this evening. We always go over to my aunt's place for dinner. For the next 3 dinners, we will be there. So there really isn't much to buy or purchase for home use. No titbits, no drinks. Pretty odd I know, but we really don't eat much of any chinese new year snacks. I will sample some when I'm at my aunt's place and that's enough for me ^^ I plan to continue crafting during the holidays!

Just a few days ago, I completed another set of pansies trio cake. This time round, I chose a vanilla cream for the cake, and the colors of the pansies just pop!

This set has been sold ^^ I do plan to make another set sometime, but right now, I want to explore the ganache look a bit more before I make another one of these.

Wishing all who are celebrating Chinese New Year a Happy Lunar New Year! :)

New Dollhouse Miniature Pansies Cake

For a while, I've forgotten how creating can be relaxing. That's why creating is something very close to my heart. Last week, I managed to make some new chocolate cream pansies cakes in 1/12 dollhouse miniature scale.

These colors perked me up and I definitely needed them last week!

Thank you to all of you who have left warm positive comments in my last post. I'm grateful for that! :) Thanks for all the positive energies I've received from friends around the world. My mom's healing was faster than I expected. Everyday, I see improvements in her healing. Right now, it's left with a tiny bit of swelling which isn't obvious unless you scrutinize her face. The color changes day to day. Right now it's left with a dark yellowish bruise with streaks of darker red. But it's definitely so much better than the first 2 days. Her spirits are up which is most important, and she even went to the hair salon to get her hair done today ^^ in preparation for next week's chinese new year. I'm feeling relieved. I am thankful for all my friends who are with me in spirit! :)
